Toxin Assay Information

Species containing the toxin Toxin type Toxin details Max. concentration Assay type
Mytilus edulis Okadaic Acid OA eq Low levels LC
Mytilus edulis Okadaic Acid DTX1 LC
Kit used: Type of kit used:
Additional information: Low detectable levels of DSP toxins were found in cultured mussels (Mytilus edulis). Toxin levels peaked during the last week in August, with the DTX-1 toxin as the main component. Levels of toxin became undetectable by late September. No toxin levels were detected in plankton samples.
Economic losses:
Management decision: An official closure of harvesting was implemented. This was the first closure in Canada due to DSP toxins
