General Information

Event name: US-90-006
Country: UNITED STATES
Nature of the harmful event:
Water Discoloration
Event directly affected:
Toxicity detected: No
Associated syndrome:
Unexplained toxicity: No
Species implicated in toxin transmission (transvector):
Report the outcome of a monitoring programme: Yes
Event occurred before in this location: Yes (The bloom was present throughout the entire Peconic Bay system during 1985 and 1986, with cell numbers exceeding 10(6) cells/ml. West Neck Bay, however, was not sampled until 1987, when counts ranged form 1 x 10(5) to 8 x 10(5) cells/ml. Cell numbers declined through 1988 (ranging from undetectable to 2 x 10(5) cells/ml) and 1989 (less than 3 x 10³ cells/ml), before increasing in density durgin 1990.)
