Additional date-related information: | On 11/8/05 LUMCON was contacted by the Dept. of Health and Hospitals Molluscan Shellfish Division that there had been reports of Karenia brevis detected in Mississippi waters close to the Louisiana border. DHH wanted to collect water samples near the oyster beds in that area and since their New Orleans lab was not operational post Hurricane Katrina, they asked LUMCON to look at the water samples. LUMCON received four batches of samples between 11/9/05 and 12/1/05. Abundances of K. brevis were close to the 5,000 cells/liter shut down level only in the first batch of samples, but then barely at detection limits after that. No discolored water was observed in this area during this time period. |
